Klay Thompson Underperforms but Luka Doncic’s Return Brings Hope for Mavs against Blazers

In a recent game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Portland Trail Blazers, the Mavericks won 117-111. With this win, they are now fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 22-16 record. Many players stepped up to contribute, but surprisingly, Klay Thompson had a season-most underwhelming performance.

With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving both injured, many fans thought Klay Thompson would take charge. But surprisingly, Thompson scored only three points, his lowest this season. He made just 1 out of 6 shots and missed all four of his three-pointers while playing less than 22 minutes.

However, it didn’t really matter for the Mavs, as Luka Doncic returned after missing a week due to a left heel injury. He had an amazing performance with 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. He helped the Mavericks, along with four other players who scored in double figures.

After the game, Dallas’ coach reflected on Thompson’s low-scoring performance.

Jason Kidd reflects on Klay Thompson’s recent slump

Klay Thompson struggled on the court against the Blazers, and it’s been noticeable in his recent games, as he hasn’t scored 20 points in any of them.

This led reporters to ask about his performance after the game. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd reassured everyone that Thompson was fine but emphasized that the team needed to work together.

Kidd said, “Yeah he’s fine, just understanding we’re a team. His teammates picked him up tonight and he’ll be ready to go on Sunday. It’s big, it just shows the character of the team. It shows the depth of the team.”

He added, “This group is going to have some time together and get a rhythm, put their best foot forward. Their energy and effort are high… We found a way to win tonight.”
