Rey Mysterio’s Royal Rumble Dream Nearly Shattered by Kevin Owens’ Piledriver on SmackDown

Rey Mysterio kicked off the January 17th episode of WWE SmackDown by welcoming the excited hometown crowd of San Diego. To make it even more special, he announced that he would be entering the 30-man Royal Rumble match.

However, his dream of winning the Royal Rumble nearly ends when Kevin Owens narrowly misses his attempt to hit the Hall of Famer with the Forbidden Package Piledriver.

Kevin Owens has recently made the Forbidden Package Piledriver his signature move, using it on stars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and now almost on Rey Mysterio. On this week’s SmackDown, Owens and Mysterio clashed in a thrilling match that quickly became unforgettable.

But things took a dangerous turn when Owens tried to hit the 50-year-old with the banned Package Piledriver—a move prohibited in WWE because of its high risk of injury.

Just as Owens was about to execute the move, Cody Rhodes stormed in to stop him. Otherwise, things could go differently for the Hall of Famer. Owens’ piledriver sidelined many wrestlers for an extended period. Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes both ended up in the hospital.

Although Cody has returned, “The Viper” has been out for more than two months. Given Rey Mysterio’s old age, this could have potentially ended his career as well. Thankfully, “The American Nightmare” came to the rescue.

Kevin Owens reacts after attempting banned move on Mysterio

Given that Kevin Owens is now using his piledriver move as his final move, it has become extremely dangerous and requires careful consideration. He calls himself the real champion, but a true champion shouldn’t cause trouble for others. However, Owens stands in opposition to that notion.

After his match, Kevin Owens shared his thoughts on facing Rey Mysterio on Twitter. He posted a picture of them both bowing, which looks like it’s from a live event. Owens has always wanted to have a match with the WWE Hall of Famer. The meaning behind the captionless tweet remains a mystery.
