During last Friday Night SmackDown, The Rock shocked the wrestling world by demanding that Cody Rhodes be his champion and give his soul to him. This bold demand had fans buzzing with questions.
But what if Cody refuses The Rock’s offer? An old YouTube clip has now resurfaced, suggesting that The Final Boss might have had a backup plan—Drew McIntyre.
The Final Boss just gave fans a glimpse of his darker side while demanding Rhodes’ soul at SmackDown, something we saw last year. But knowing Cody Rhodes, he would never let The Rock control him by giving his soul.
This will definitely spark a big clash between them. Then Rocky will need to choose someone else as his champion. That’s where Drew McIntyre’s name comes up.
This idea comes from an old YouTube clip from five years ago. The video, posted on Adam’s Apple YouTube channel, shows The Rock being asked who he thinks could be WWE’s next big star.
He answered, “Personally, I like Drew McIntyre. I think he’s got a great look, a great build, and especially as he continues to hone in on his craft and connect to the audience—which is always the most important thing.”
As a TKO board member, Brahma Bull has the power to choose anyone as his champion. Since he once praised ‘The Scottish Warrior’ over Roman Reigns, there’s a strong chance he could pick Drew McIntyre instead of Cody Rhodes.
Moreover, WWE reportedly has big plans for The Scottish Warrior in 2025. So, this theory makes even more sense.
WWE wants to make 2025 big for Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre is now part of WWE SmackDown. He left Raw and joined the blue brand in February. WWE sees him as a big star and wants to make 2025 a huge year for him. Even before the year started, WWE had big plans for McIntyre, especially after his intense rivalry with CM Punk in 2024.

Last year, an episode of WrestleVotes Radio revealed that WWE views McIntyre as a significant future star. They believe he is close to, or already is, a top main event star. Some of this success is credited to his work with CM Punk over the past 10 months.
WWE also loved McIntyre’s unscripted comments on Busted Open Radio, and they’re excited to focus on him in 2025.
