Dallas Mavericks has been finned for the third time by the NBA on Friday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. NBA fined the Mavs for violating the team bench decorum.
With the previous fines on two separate occasion, the amount of fine has doubled each time, the latest one a $100,000 fine came after Game 2 of the Western Conference finals on Friday. All the fines amounts to 175,000$.
The reason for the third time of game-2 as described by the NBA states several Mavericks players have stood for most or all of the games during the playoffs, including home games. The fines have been for players and coaches standing for extended periods, straying too far from the bench and encroaching on the court during game action.
“On multiple occasions, several players and a member of the coaching staff stood for an extended period in the Mavericks’ team bench area, stood away from the team bench, and were on or encroaching upon the playing court during game action.”

The first two fines were posed during the Western Conference semifinals against Phoenix Suns. After Games 2 in Arizona Mavericks was fined with an amount of $25,000 and after the game 7 it doubled to $50,000 when the Mavs got a 33 point victory against the Suns in the deciding game.
however, these amount of fines are pocket change for an NBA team, specially for an owner like Mark Cuban. Looks like the behaviour of the Dallas bench is not going to change so early as Dallas coach Jason Kidd said before Game 3:
“It’s the league’s decision to fine, but we’re not going to sit,”. “We’re going to cheer. That’s, I think, a positive that the bench can look at it as they’re donating to a nice charity.”
Jason Kidd’s statement clearly indicates that those amount of fines are not enough and in no way going to change the behavior of the Mavs bench. They need to impose such fines more tenaciously to stop the Mavs.
