The match-winning goal of Man Utd came from Marcus Rashford, as Erik ten Hag’s team ended Arsenal’s perfect record.
Rashford improved his chances of being called up to the England squad with two goals and an assist, while Antony made his debut for United after arriving for £85.5 million. United climbed up to fifth place with their fourth straight win, just three points behind Mikel Arteta’s side, who stayed top after suffering their first defeat of the season.
Why did Man Utd get a deserving victory through Rashford?
Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford owing to a masterful second-half counter-attacking display.
New signing Antony scored in the first half before Bukayo Saka equalized in the second, but Marcus Rashford made his presence felt shortly after, scoring twice on the counter to give his team a crucial three points.
Rashford, who has three goals this season and appears to be regaining his form after scoring only five goals in total last season, has not scored against Arsenal since his Premier League debut in 2016. “It’s been a long time,” Rashford added. “I hadn’t scored against Arsenal in a long time, but I didn’t realize it until before the game.”
England assistant manager Steve Holland was present at Old Trafford, with Rashford providing a timely reminder of his quality ahead of Gareth Southgate’s announcement of his latest squad a week on Thursday. Ten Hag praised his United players, but added that they can improve even more if they maintain the level they have set in their last four games.
Marcus also answered the interviewer by saying, “It was something I was looking to do this year and I’m happy I managed to get the goals. It’s a great feeling. You do miss it as a player. I’m just hoping I can stay fit, stay healthy and keep putting performances like that.”
Manchester United enjoyed 85 percent possession in the opening 10 minutes, and Ten Hag believed it was the best they had played under his leadership and Erik ten Hag is pleased with his Manchester United side’s team spirit in the 3-1 victory.
On the other hand, Arsenal manager Arteta said: “I’m very disappointed we haven’t won the game. The game was there for the taking. We haven’t won because we lacked some discipline in some moments and we weren’t ruthless enough in front of goal.”
