Anderson Silva isn’t going to stop fighting despite being 47 years old and losing his boxing fight to Jake Paul on Saturday night.
In terms of what happened in the ring against Paul, Silva admitted that he “failed in strategy” since his “basis was not correct,” allowing his opponent to deliver a major punch en route to a unanimous-decision loss.
In the main event of the showtime boxing card on Saturday at Desert Diamond Arena, “The Spider” was defeated by a unanimous decision against Paul. It was a close battle, but Paul’s knockdown in Round 8 secured his victory and extended the YouTuber’s boxing record to 6-0.
All three judges agreed that Paul won the eight-round fight (78-73, 78-73, 77-74).
“I failed my mission, and I’m back home, training better, and trying to make the strategy correct in the next time,” Silva said.
The Spider told the media after the fight that he “can’t stop” competing.
Although the scorecards appeared like it was a one-sided match, Silva looked impressive against an opponent 22 years his younger. During rounds 2 (7-6), 5 (18-8), and 6 (12-10), he landed more total punches than Paul, and he had a 66-51 advantage in power punches landed.
Silva is one of the most decorated MMA fighters of all time. He owns the record for the most successful UFC middleweight title defenses (10) and held the title for more than six years, from October 2006 to July 2013.
Silva was released by UFC after losing to Uriah Hall in October 2020. Prior to his battle with Paul, he had defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz in boxing.
