TE T.J. Hockenson debut: Vikings TE aces his first test

Trading for T.J. Hockenson was a massive move for the Minnesota Vikings on contract extension day. The action served both a short-term gain and a strategic move for the future. The decision appeared to be magnificent in the NFL arena.

At the start of the week, it was thought that Hockenson might be prepared to play at full strength next week against the Buffalo Bills.

A member of the Vikings’ practice squad, quarterback David Blough (formerly of the Detroit Lions) was credited with helping bring Hockenson up to speed, as reported on the broadcast. At 10 o’clock that night, they began their labors, which bore fruit the following Sunday.

The Commanders shot at Hockenson nine times. He hauled in every one of them, racking up 70 yards and six first downs. The Vikings’ tight-end unit has not been this effective since 2018.

TJ was a formidable force in both the passing and rushing games. He was the inline threat with blocking abilities the Vikings needed to create space for Dalvin Cook.

This was excellent news for Hockenson as well. Even after he was traded to a better team, the Detroit Lions never again won more than six games in a season. Hockenson has joined a club that has started off well, winning seven of their first eight games.

If Hockenson can do this well after just five days of training with the squad, just think of how much better he will be with more time in the training.
