Glover Teixeira’s journey in the UFC has been nothing but full of surprises so far. From losing to Jon Jones, winning the title, losing it again, and finally getting another shot. All these experiences have changed his outlook on both fighting and life in general.
The 43-year-old Brazillian fought in his first title defense match in Singapore. He was seemingly winning the fight until, in the very last round, Jiri picked up the win via submission. This performance has instilled a newfound confidence in the light-heavyweight who has delayed his retirement indefinitely.
His opponent, Jamahal Hill was only 22 years old when Teixeira started his professional MMA journey. Now following knockout wins against big names like Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker, he is set to compete for the title in Rio de Janeiro.
Neither of these fighters will get a full training camp owing to the super short notice. Glover still remains confident, “That’s not the case, to think I’m better prepared than this guy. I’m the better man, that’s what I have to think.”
“Do the right strategy and submit this guy. Take him down, submit him, or knock him out. Everybody knows my style already. Take him down, but the hand gets in if he lets it.”
The fight will be held in Brazil which will probably aid the former champion. Brazillian fans are known to act hostile against any fighter going against a fellow Brazillian. Glover will enjoy the extra support but Hill has to go through hostility.
The 43-year-old also touched on his future plans, “I’ll go after the belt. No one owns it. I’ll show I’m the best in the world. If Prochazka recovers before the end of the year, I don’t know if he can do it, then we’ll fight again.”
