Henry Cejudo to put a stamp of ‘Goat’ status on Jon Jones as ‘Fighter of the Year’ following his return on 2023

One of the most argued subjects in the MMA world probably revolves around the ‘Goat’ status which has seen candidates like Khabib Nurmagomedov, George Saint Pierre, and Jon Jones getting considered. But now Henry Cejudo, who is also a potential candidate for the status with his two-division championship belt, has revealed his pick.

Cejudo currently runs a YouTube channel of his own where he talks about the MMA world and also reacts to combat events live. Recently the Olympic gold medalist was talking about the much-awaited return of Jon Jones to the heavyweight division and he had some very interesting things to say,

“It’s gonna put a stamp on top of the stamp on top of the stamp that he is the greatest of all time. When I think of that matchup, especially Francis coming out of an injury and Jon being hungry, being out for three-and-a-half years, I think the ball’s pretty much on Jon’s court”

“It’s not a biased opinion, but just the simple fact that Jon Jones has been injury-free, Jon Jones has been training, Jon Jones has had the ability of re-kindling, re-sparking that fire once again. So when I think of 2023, the return, and who it is that’ll be Fighter of the Year, I think of a guy like Jon Jones,” said Henry as justification for his case against Francis Ngannou.

It is true that ‘The Predator’ has been out for a long time owing to an injury suffered in the Cyril Gane bout timeline. Many fans are weary that the Cameroonian will be holding his truck-like punching capabilities after his return. Cyril held up really well against Ngannou and the heavyweight champ had to rely on his ground game to finally pick up the win.

Cejudo tried to justify his picks by saying, “The edge on that, I think, is just his competitiveness. Jon Jones is a better competitor than he is a fighter. That’s what he has the difference between him and Francis Ngannou. Francis Ngannou does have something, and it is called power, but when you’re able to fatigue power, and you’re able to do it in a certain way, it changes everything. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.”

Who will you support in the Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones fight?
