Jerrell Powe, a former University of Mississippi and NFL football player was arrested in Mississippi on kidnapping charges on Thursday. Powe, 35, was arrested in the Jackson suburb of Ridgeland and remains jailed there with no bail set. The victim is safe but the details of the kidnapping remain unknown.
Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers revealed that the incident began in Laurel, located 75 miles southeast of Jackson. It came to an end when the victim was able to contact the police and alert them of the situation. Powe is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday and it is unclear if he has a lawyer to represent him.
Powe had a successful career in college football, playing defensive tackle for Ole Miss from 2008 to 2010. He recorded 69 tackles, seven sacks, and one interception in 37 games. Powe was named Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference in 2009 and 2010.
This success lead to Powe being selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He went on to play in 12 games over three seasons for the Chiefs and 16 games for the Houston Texans in 2014. Powe tallied 18 tackles and one sack during his time in the NFL.
