Except for off-ring activities Jon Jones has always been revered as one of the finest fighters in MMA history because of his fierce and aggressive fighting skills.
This American holds a record of 26 wins and only one loss in his 28 pro MMA appearances; his only defeat was against Matt Hamill, although Jones was disqualified due to an illegal knee.
The 6′ 4″ New Mexico native has reigned as a UFC light heavyweight champion for years and has the desire to grab the heavyweight title, but he was out of the octagon for nearly three years.
Now the 36-year-old is set to make a return to the octagon on March 4, 2023, at the main event of UFC 285 against Ciryl Gane for the UFC’s vacated heavyweight title.
However, his fiercest rival Daniel Cormier will appear as a commentator on the same matchday, and in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Jones stated that he is thrilled for DC because of his success since retiring from fighting while dismissing the possibility of fighting him again in the future.
“I’m not competing against Daniel Cormier. I’ve already beaten him twice. I’m really happy for Daniel Cormier. I love what he’s done in his life with his wrestling and broadcasting. I think it’s awesome when a fighter can retire and use his voice and intelligence to do something that he loves, so I’ve got nothing but respect for Daniel Cormier.”
Jones faced Cormier twice in his career, and both times he defeated him. However, the second time, Jones tested positive for a ‘turinabol metabolite’, and the fight was ruled a no-contest by the California State Athletic Commission.
One thing to mention is that Jones was supposed to face the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but due to his release from the UFC, he will square off against Gane instead.
