The second oldest UFC champion, Glover Teixeira, faced Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 to defend his UFC light heavyweight title, but failed and tasted a submission victory. After that, the Brazilian was supposed to face Denisa in a rematch.
But in December, Prochazka was forced out of the fight due to an injury, and after that, he vacated the title.
Now Glover Teixeira is ready to take down the American star Jamahal Hill at UFC 283’s main event. At the UFC 283 media day, the Brazilian stated that he intends to reclaim the belt at the age of 43 by making history.
“I’m very happy to be here. When you want something, you have to figure out what you have to do to get there. I want to keep fighting for a long time. I’m here fighting at the highest level. I got the belt at 42, and hope to get the belt at 43 to make history.”
But the Connecticut native is very careful about his opponent and said that the fight will be exciting to watch.
“I was surprised for the last two months, very surprised with everything that happened. All the stuff happened and now here we are with Jamahal Hill. He’s a dangerous fighter. He’s proven. He’s the next guy. It’s going to be a good matchup and it’s going to be a good fight.”
However, at the same event, Hill also faced the reporters, and he clarified that he does not care about the home audience and will be there to grab the title.
“I don’t care. The crowd can’t fight for him, so it doesn’t matter to me. However, he feels, it don’t matter. I’m gonna do what I do and we gonna see what he could take.”
“It adds a little bit more to the story, a little bit more to it in that regard. But for me personally, just getting the title. I just want the title – I’m hungry for gold.”
