Audiences tend to do bizarre things in live matches, mostly intentionally, to gain the spotlight. On last Saturday’s Big 12 battle, a female Kansas fan was spotted on camera cheering for the team wearing an apparently-inappropriate T-shirt. The tee had “I love Dick” written on it.
This might look like a random teenager’s hack to invite some attention to many of you. But we assure you, there is more to that. Let’s find out!

Well, wearing a t-shirt with ‘Dick’ written on it might sound a bit weird. But it’s probably not as weird as bring ‘named Dick. Turns out, this fan was just expressing her unwavering support for Kansas guard Gradey Dick.

The support seems to have worked for Gradey as he was the second leading scorer in the match followed by eight points on a 3-of-13 shooting against TCU. Kansas star Jalen Wilson scored 30 points against TCU to follow up a career-high 38 against Kansas State.
Despite the individual breaks, the team appears to disappoint its fans as Jayhawks were manhandled at home by the Horned Frogs, 83-60. Kansas was ranked No. 2 when it dropped an 83-82 overtime decision to host Kansas State on Tuesday, and then fell to then-No. 14 TCU 83-60 at home on Saturday. The 23-point thrashing halted the Jayhawks’ (16-3, 5-2 Big 12) 16-game home winning streak, as they fell down 37-15 only 11 minutes into the game.
“We didn’t guard well, but I thought we didn’t score and the good looks we had, missed,” Kansas coach Bill Self said afterward. “I thought it got a little bit like we were playing like we had a 10-point play in our back pocket as opposed to just trying to win that possession. That happens a lot when you get behind like that.”
Even if the players couldn’t catch many eyes with their performance, Dick’s fans definitely caught plenty. Rest assured, it was just a cheer for the favorite player, although her picture is being taken out of context to insert double meanings.
Love the T-shirt.
It’s funny. When I first saw a clip of it, I thought the cheerleader in front was obscuring another letter. Why not just I love Gradey? She must have known how it sounded and how it looked.
