PSG director Luis Campos urges Kylian Mbappe to “do better” after French star breaks PSG’s all-time goal scoring record

PSG faced off against Nantes last Sunday, the 5th of March, in Ligue 1 action. They came out as 4-2 winners in the contest, with Kylian Mbappe scoring the final goal for the Parisians in the 92nd minute of the game.

PSG took an early lead through Lionel Messi and scored the second soon after through an own goal. They were 2-0 inside 17 minutes; however, Nantes fought back and equalized in the space of 7 minutes scoring in the 31st and 38th minutes of the game. Danilo Pereira restored the capital side’s lead in the 60th minute.

Then in the last gasps of the match, youngster Timothée Pembélé won the ball high up the pitch and crossed it into Mbappe in the box, who received the ball with his back to the goal. He managed to turn the defender and score with his left to seal the game.

What did this goal mean for Mbappe?

This goal was Mbappe’s 18th league goal of the season in only 22 games, putting him on top of the scoring charts of Ligue 1, right ahead of Lille’s Jonathan David, who has 16 goals. More importantly, this goal was Mbappe’s 201st for the French outfit making him the all-time top scorer for the side.

He moves ahead of Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani, who played for the club from 2013 to 2020. Mbappe reached this feat in 54 fewer games than Cavani as the young Frenchman’s rise to the top continues. After the match against Nantes, the talismanic forward was given an award for his achievement.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos feels that Mbappe has yet to reach his best. Campos is known for his roles at Monaco and Lille, where he was instrumental in bringing young talents like Mbappe and Rafael Leao to the clubs, respectively. The Portuguese football advisor believes the French forward will improve even further once he reaches the age of 25-26.
