The Los Angeles Rams have shocked fans ahead of the NFL free agency by making the stunning decision to release LB Leonard Floyd, who played a significant role in the team’s Super Bowl triumph two years ago. Despite achieving a career-high in sacks in 2020 with 10.5, Floyd’s departure comes after spending three seasons with the Rams. He was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016 and was later traded to the Chicago Bears, where he spent the first four years of his career.
Insider Adam Schefter broke the news on Twitter that the Rams were planning to cut Floyd, and the team followed through on that prediction.

Despite having a solid season with 59 tackles, 9 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 22 quarterback pressures, Floyd’s departure was confirmed. In comparison, Floyd had a similar season in 2021 with 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, and 18 quarterback pressures. It is believed that The Rams’ disastrous 5-12 season has forced them to part ways with Leonard Floyd.
Why is the Rams’ letting go of their players?
Throughout the offseason, the Rams have been shedding salary, and their first move was to part ways with middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, which saved them $5 million against the salary cap. Floyd’s release will save the team $3 million against the cap in the upcoming season. Additionally, more cuts and trades are expected before the start of the new league year on March 15, including the possible trading of All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and wide receiver Allen Robinson.
Although the Rams’ decision to release Leonard Floyd may come as a surprise to some fans who had high hopes for the outside linebacker, the team’s need to reduce their salary cap and make room for new players has taken priority. As the new league year approaches, many teams are looking to make significant moves, and the Rams are no exception. Potential trades and cuts loom, and it remains to be seen how the team will shape up for the upcoming season. However, fans aren’t particularly impressed with this decision. Here are some reaction of the Rams’ fans and their rivals-
