The memorable clash between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier in 2018 is still vivid in the minds of many UFC enthusiasts. Fans are now anticipating another spectacular lightweight bout between the two American fighters five years after the two 155-pounders’ initial encounter.
The two-time title contender Justin Gaethje got back on the winning track with his most recent triumph over Rafael Fiziev. In UFC 286, which took place at The O2 Arena in London, The Highlight and Ataman engaged in an entertaining lightweight battle.

The Azerbaijani fighter’s six-fight winning streak came to an end when Justin defeated him by a majority decision. In a post-fight interview, Gaethje discussed his future goals, which include facing Dustin Poirier again because he still has unfinished business with the Louisiana-born fighter.
What did Dustin Poirier say about fighting Justin Gaethje again?
It initially appeared like a crazy idea for Justin to want to fight Dustin again, but exciting news for the fans is that since Dustin is also very much interested in the match, it appears the lightweight bout may take place sooner than we had anticipated.

In a recent interview, Dustin Poirier, who most recently competed in UFC 281, defeated Michael Chandler by rear-naked choke and expressed a desire in taking on Gaethje.
“It seems like the Gaethje fight makes the most sense. We’ll see, I think it could happen this summer. But I don’t have an answer for you, I don’t know what’s next, but it’s looking like the Gaethje fight.” said Dustin.
When The Diamond and The Highlight last squared off in the octagon, Poirier emerged triumphant. After that, a lot of things changed in the lightweight division: Conor McGregor fell, Khabib Nurmagomedov reigned and resigned, Charles Oliveira grabbed the title, and now Islam Makhachev is on the throne.
Given all this, a rematch between the second-ranked and third-ranked fighters in the division would surely be thrilling. Dustin is willing to take the challenge as he said, “He’s calling for it. His people around him, I saw an interview, they said they don’t think I’m gonna take it. They’re some silly goose man.”
