DeMarcus Cousins, a four-time NBA All-Star, is set to continue his professional basketball career in Puerto Rico. The veteran center will be signing with the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican professional basketball league, BSN. The plan is for Cousins to play in the league during the spring season with hopes of making it back to the NBA next season.
Cousins, who is 33 years old, last played 31 games with the Denver Nuggets in the 2020-2021 season but was not signed to a roster this season. He worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this season, but nothing materialized. Cousins has also spent time with the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Milwaukee Bucks over the course of his career.

Cousins has expressed his confusion as to why he is not currently playing in the NBA. He has asked former teams and reached out for answers but has only received sugar-coated responses. He says he has never gotten an honest answer as to why teams aren’t interested in his services, which he sees as the “untold secret of the NBA.”
However, Cousins remains confident in his ability to play at an elite level if given the opportunity. In a recent interview on the KG CERTIFIED podcast, he even claimed that he is currently the third-best center in the league. Cousins is determined to make it back to the NBA and is not giving up on his goal.
It remains to be seen whether Cousins will make it back to the NBA, but his signing with the Guaynabo Mets shows his willingness to continue playing professionally and his determination to prove his worth.

The Rise, Fall, and Potential Resurgence of DeMarcus Cousins: A Journey through Injuries and Uncertainty
DeMarcus Cousins, a four-time NBA All-Star, was not offered a deal by the Los Angeles Lakers after his recent workout with the team. Instead, Cousins is set to sign with the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican professional basketball league in hopes of finding a path back to the NBA for next season.
Cousins, who last played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season, has been a free agent for the entire 2022-23 campaign. He played a total of 48 games for Denver and Milwaukee in the past two years, making seven starts and averaging 9.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.4 blocks per game.
However, Cousins’ career has been hampered by injuries, including a torn Achilles in the 2017-18 season and a torn ACL that cost him the entire 2019-20 season. Despite his impressive career averages of 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, the Lakers chose to sign veteran big man Tristan Thompson and guard Shaquille Harrison before the end of the 2022-23 season instead of Cousins.
It remains to be seen if Cousins will be able to convince an NBA team to take a chance on him for the 2023-24 season.
