Former UFC dual champion, Daniel Cormier, recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming boxing match between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz, which is scheduled to take place on August 5th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Cormier believes that Paul’s size advantage over Diaz could be a significant factor in the fight, but he stopped short of making any predictions.
However, Cormier did express his opinion on Paul’s most recent bout against Tommy Fury. Stating that he wasn’t impressed with the YouTube star’s performance.
Cormier even went as far as to suggest that Fury may have exposed some weaknesses in Paul’s game, which Diaz could potentially exploit.
The fight between Paul and Diaz is set to be an eight-round boxing match at 185 pounds and will be promoted under the DAZN banner with a live pay-per-view broadcast.
While Diaz is making his boxing debut, he is a former UFC lightweight and has a reputation for being a tough and durable fighter. Paul, on the other hand, has a record of 6-1, with all of his wins coming against non-boxers or low-level opponents.

“When watching Jake fight against Tommy Fury, he’s not as good as we originally thought,” Cormier said on his ESPN show “DC & RC.” “Because Tommy Fury pretty much limited him to just throwing overhand rights. He didn’t have an answer for Tommy Fury, a guy that’s been boxing for as long as Fury’s been boxing. He just kept trying to hit him with the overhand right.”
Paul’s consistent improvement in the sport, evident by his victories over former MMA champions such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (on two occasions), and Anderson Silva, had left an impression on Cormier.
However, his perception seems to have been altered after he faced a professional boxer in Fury. Despite never having boxed professionally. Diaz’s training has been deemed sufficient by Cormier in preparation for facing Paul.
“I think that is where I give Nate Diaz the chance,” Cormier said. “Because Diaz has been boxing for a long time. Diaz has done rounds with Andre Ward. Diaz has been around the sport of boxing and fighting for a really long time.”
