In 2013, the match between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez occurred, with Mayweather at 36 years old and Alvarez at 22. This bout marked Mayweather Jr.’s 45th professional fight, while Alvarez had previously competed in 44 professional fights.
Mayweather and Alvarez battled through all 12 rounds, with Mayweather ultimately claiming the victory according to the judges’ scorecards. In addition to winning the WBC and ‘The Ring’ light-middleweight titles, Mayweather held onto his WBA super-light middleweight title after defeating Alvarez.
There is widespread speculation that in a hypothetical rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez, the Mexican boxer would emerge victorious over his American counterpart from Michigan. In response to the possibility of a rematch, Mayweather tweeted the following:
“Canelo Alvarez is a [h*ll of a] fighter. [When people talk about] a prime Mayweather versus a prime Canelo, I fought a prime Canelo. I was the older Mayweather fighting [a] prime Canelo. If it [were] a prime Mayweather, the fight wouldn’t have gone the distance.”

The Mayweather vs. Alvarez fight generated a staggering $150 million from 2.2 million pay-per-view sales on Showtime PPV, breaking the previous record set by Mayweather in 2007 against Oscar De La Hoya.
Mayweather would go on to surpass this record in 2015, when he faced Manny Pacquiao and the event sold a staggering 4.6 million pay-per-views.
Floyd Mayweather thinks highly of Francis Ngannou
Upon Francis’s departure from the UFC, numerous individuals asserted that the Cameroonian former heavyweight champion had undermined his own success.
Dubbed ‘The Predator’, Ngannou exited the UFC following a breakdown in negotiations with the organization. UFC President, Dana White, alleged that Ngannou declined an offer of $8 million to fight Jones – the largest sum ever offered to any heavyweight or UFC fighter.
According to former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, Francis made a grave error by departing from the top MMA organization, likening it to the act of ‘Harakiri’.
In addition, ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley opined that a potential bout between Francis and Tyson Fury is improbable now that Ngannou is no longer the UFC’s heavyweight champion.
Despite some dismissing Francis, the PFL has actively pursued the Cameroonian fighter, presenting what could potentially be a significant opportunity for the former UFC heavyweight champion.
Additionally, there appears to be interest from Floyd and Mayweather Promotions in signing Ngannou, further adding to his potential opportunities outside of the UFC.
