After the end of a long-awaited trade saga, the Green Bay Packers’ long-time quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally got himself enrolled in the New York Jets roster as the Packers traded their franchise QB to the Jets for the No. 13, No. 42 (second round), and No. 207 (sixth round) picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, marking an end of 18 years tenure with the franchise.
Rodgers wanted to go to the Jets after returning from a darkness retreat and the Packers also had set up their mind to pave the way for the promising young QB Jordan Love before bidding adieu to Aaron, hence, both the four-time MVP and his former team’s wish got fulfilled by the blockbuster trade.
Green Bay’s offense is going to witness a major change with the inclusion of a new QB1 this year alongside six new wide receivers in the past two drafts: Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Samori Toure, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Grant DuBose.
The Packers will not burden Jordan Love with the standards set by Aaron Rodgers
Jordan Love will be taking over Aaron’s position as Green Bay’s starting quarterback this fall with some big shoes to fill in the same way the 10-time Pro Bowler did earlier, after filling the void of veteran QB Brett Favre.
However, Green Bay has decided to practice a patient approach with Jordan instead troubling him with heavy expectations as they believe success right out of the gate is a recipe for disaster- per Dianna Russini of ESPN via NFL on ESPN.
“He’s not going to be able to step out on the field and immediately light this up. It’s going to take some time just because he hasn’t had that much time out on the field”, the source said on Tuesday.
The team’s head coach Matt LaFleur had high praises for the 24-year-old saying he made some huge strides and credited the quarterbacks coach Tom Clements for it.
“Just watching him last year. I think Jordan’s made some huge strides. I really do and I think a lot of it is a credit to Tom, and just, he knows how to train these guys. He knows how to drill them and he’s very, very consistent”, he said.
The 2020 draft pick played in 10 games with the franchise throughout the 2021 and 2022 seasons, recording 60.2 percent of his passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.
With Rodgers now out of the picture, Love will have a chance to show what he can do, albeit seemingly the Packers are in no rush to throw him into the deep end. Instead, they plan to give him time to develop his skills and learn from the team’s experienced coaching staff.
As Green Bay continues to navigate this new era without their long-time quarterback, many eyes will be on the new signal-caller as he steps into the spotlight and begins his journey as the team’s new franchise quarterback.
