Winning the four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers is not all for the Jets, rather the team finds itself in a big dilemma in search to strengthen their roster, perhaps they finally end up doing it by reconsidering their contract with linebacker C.J. Mosley.
In order to free up some salary cap space, the Jets decided to restructure linebacker C.J. Mosley’s contract in 2022, however, the Jets may decide to take additional action with regard to the linebacker’s contract with them in 2023.
Jets seek contract restructure with C.J. Mosley
The Jets value Mosley’s leadership and deem him to be one of their most significant players, so renegotiating his contract to keep him as a weapon for Rodgers is unquestionably a smart move for the Big Apple. And eventually, they make it happen, according to reports that the team has contracted with the linebacker’s agent to rework his contract to reduce his $21.5 million salary-cap figure.
“They talked to my agent. I’m not really concerned or worried about it too much,” he said. “I come here to work every day, focused on getting better and trying to win a championship and being the best player I can be. Whatever happens, happens. It hasn’t been a concern.”
CJ Mosley’s current contract
On March 14, 2019, CJM agreed to a five-year, $85 million deal, with a $43 million signing bonus that was fully guaranteed and an additional $51 million in overall guarantees, also consisting of his salaries in 2019 and 2020 and a partial $8 million guarantee on his 2021 salary.
The 30-year-old currently carries the biggest cap burden for the Jets in 2023, as his base salary of $17 million this year will count for $21.5 million on the team’s cap sheet each of the next two seasons.
Is CJ Mosley a Hall of Famer?
Mosley has already established himself as a potential Hall of Fame candidate with his athletic prowess, but despite this, he will likely need a few more outstanding seasons and achievements to earn the linebacker title.
Since joining the NFL in 2014, the Jet’s star linebacker has recorded 914 total tackles, which ranks fourth in the NFL. However, only 5.5% of his defensive snaps were stopped, placing him 15th out of 74 qualified linebackers, yet the Jets superstar has a bit lacking in his career. What? A Super Bowl is the answer perhaps for which he still lacks behind in the run of being a Hall of Famer.
