A few weeks ago Canelo Alvarez suffered a big blow in his plans as Dmitry Bivol rejected the super middleweight champion’s callout for a rematch. The two rivals were speculated to fight each other after Saul’s unanimous decision win over John Ryder in his last bout. However, the Mexican boxer will have to wait to avenge his loss to Bivol.
Consequently, Alvarez and his team moved on from the Ukrainian light heavyweight champion and made a fight offer to Badou Jack. Last week, Amer Abdullah of Skills Challenge who is also the CEO of Badou Jack’s promotion revealed that they are in direct contact with Canelo’s team for the WBC cruiserweight title bout.
Why did Badou Jack reject Canelo Alvarez’s offer?
After Amer Abdullah confirmed that 90% of the terms are agreed and there is a high possibility of a matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Badou Jack, fight fans became excited as the Mexican boxer could add a fifth world title to his cabinet. However, Badou Jack put an end to all the rumours of a matchup by rejecting Saul’s fight offer on Twitter.
The Swedish boxer who is currently the WBC cruiserweight champion explained the reason behind rejecting the offer and also slammed Canelo for trying to apply a rehydration clause in the contract. Besides, Jack made a cheeky dig at the Mexican champion by asking him to not duck David Benavidez.

Will Canelo Alvarez ever fight David Benavidez?
With Badou Jack and Dmitry Bivol rejecting fight offers, Canelo Alvarez is not left with a lot of options for his next boxing bout. For the last few years fight fans are demanding the super middleweight champion take on David Benavidez as he is undefeated and a big name. But to the disappointment of everyone, Canelo has not shown any interest towards that matchup.
As per reports, Canelo’s team is in talks with Jermall Charlo. It is a big matchup as both are champions and household names in the sport of boxing. With that being said, if Canelo fights Charlo next and defeats him, there won’t be any other matchup besides Benavidez that would make sense. So there is a high possibility that one could see the super fight between Saul Alvarez and David Benavidez taking place next year.
It is needless to say that Saul has outclassed a lot of top boxers and has achieved a tremendous amount of success in the sport. But if he doesn’t fight David Benavidez before retiring, there will be a lot of critics and fans who will accuse him of ducking the American boxer.
