Eddie Hearn concerned on losing big-money fights following Canelo Alvarez’s switch to PBC: “Huge pot of money”

Canelo Alvarez recently announced that he has signed a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions. The Mexican boxer also mentioned on his social media page that he will make a return to the ring in September. Rumors suggest that his next opponent is Jermall Charlo, but there is a possibility that David Benavidez is also included in the three-fight deal or could even be his next opponent.

Considering the high number of accolades the Mexican has already amassed, it will be interesting to see what influences him the most in terms of picking his next opponents: money, glory, or revenge.

How long have Canelo Alvarez and Eddie Hearn worked together?

Canelo Alvarez left his long-time promoter Oscar De La Hoya and joined forces with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing in 2020. During this three-year period, the super middleweight champion has fought against many big names like Gennadiy Golovkin, Caleb Plant, and Calum Smith.

However, after the failure of Eddie Hearn to make the Bivol rematch, Saul decided to part ways with the Matchroom boxing promoter and signed a lucrative deal with a new promoter. Consequently, Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on Canelo signing a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s PBC.

“I think it’s a good move for him. Of course, we want to promote Canelo Alvarez. We never made him an offer.  We didn’t have a fight for him for September. You know, we were asked to make the Bivol fight. That wasn’t possible,” said Eddie.

“I spoke to him last night and I wished him all the best. And we’ve done seven of his last eight fights. It’s been an amazing run. I’m sure we’ll work together again. But now we’ve got to look at that huge pot of money that was there per Canelo fight. And now start looking at bringing some big fights, not one big fight. But a string of big fights to the platform,” he added.

Who will Canelo Alvarez fight next?

According to reports from Mike Coppinger of ESPN, Canelo Alvarez will defend his super middleweight title against Jermall Charlo in his next fight. This matchup is expected to take place on September 19th and will be the first of the three-fight deal that Saul has signed with PBC.

Canelo Alvarez celebrates his win

Many fight fans wanted to see Canelo fight David Benavidez next. But this matchup is also almost equally as exciting because Charlo is currently undefeated in his pro boxing career and is a very dangerous fighter with great knockout power.

As of now, the fight is not announced officially. But after Badou Jack and Dmitry Bivol’s refusal to accept the fight offer from Canelo, this fight against Charlo will most likely take place next.
