In his return bout, Tony Ferguson is scheduled to face Bobby Green. A month before the eagerly awaited lightweight bout, Tony posted a video on his social media accounts with a mysterious message for his next octagon opponent.
The main card pairings for UFC 291 were revealed a little over a month ago by Dana White. The UFC president named Tony Ferguson vs. Bobby Green, a veteran of the UFC, as one of the most awaited matchups. Due to both fighters’ reputations as formidable opponents in the Octagon, this bout attracted a lot of anticipation from fans.
The BMF championship would also return on July 29 to the Salt Lake City Delta Centre, according to Dana White. The highly regarded fighters Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier were selected this time to contest for the honorary BMF championship belt.
Tony Furguson vs Bobby Green bout preview
Dana White’s announcement of Tony Ferguson’s next bout took everyone by surprise. It had been quite some time since Ferguson’s last fight, which was a defeat against Nate Diaz in UFC 279.

Bobby Green’s recent string of losses has left him eager to get back on the winning track. In 2022, Green faced tough opponents in Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober, resulting in consecutive defeats for the 36-year-old fighter.
Due to their shared desire to atone for recent failures, the bout is expected to be an intense one.

Can Tony Furguson get back to the top of UFC lightweight division
In order to make a statement and generate momentum in the very competitive lightweight category, Ferguson’s battle against Bobby would be a defining moment in his career.
The loss to Diaz was a significant setback for Ferguson, as his losing streak extended to five. The 39-year-old fighter, a former interim lightweight champion, would definitely be eyeing to get back his lost glory one last time.
Unfortunately, ‘El Cucuy’ looks far away from his glory days. MMA as a sport has evolved quite a bit and Tony has struggled against both strikers like Justin Gaethje and BJJ or Wrestling pros like Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush. Considering all these factors, it’s unlikely we will ever see him back on top of the premier 155 pound division.
