Transfer News: Italian report claims Manchester United turn attention towards $50 million Andre Onana pursuit following successful Mason Mount haul

After the wait of more than two weeks since the start of the transfer window, Manchester United fans have something to be optimistic about. The club’s hierarchy has struck an agreement with Chelsea for the 24-year-old English midfielder Mason Mount. Several reports suggested that Erik Ten Hag had made the Englishman his priority to rejuvenate his midfield.

The last season was a season of ebbs and flows for the Red Devils which finally drew its curtains with a loss against their arch-rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final. The Dutchman is hopeful to strengthen a lot of areas in the field but not more so than the midfield and the attacking front. After a 12-year stint with Manchester United, there are huge question marks on David de Gea’s future at Old Trafford. Inevitably, Inter Milan’s number 1, Andre Onana seems to be the priority target to replace the Spaniard.

Reports suggest Manchester United submit a bid for Inter GK

Erik Ten Hag seems to have doubts about the capability of his number one stopper after an error-strewn season and costing his team in crunch matches. Over the past few years, David de Gea has been considered as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world but there is a lot of skepticism on his ability to play out from the back. The possession-based style of gameplay which the Dutchman is well known for from his Ajax days, seems far-fetched with a goalkeeper who is not comfortable with playing out from the back.

The Manchester United manager has set his sights on a possible reunion with his former Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana. Andre Onana came into the limelight after his pinpoint distribution in the Champions League final against Manchester City. The Cameroon number one is believed to be worth close to $54 million. Several Italian reports suggest there are going to be preliminary talks between the clubs to discuss Onana’s possible move to Old Trafford.

United manager Erik Ten Hag wants priority signings ahead of preseason camp

Manchester United hope to complete the signing of Mason Mount in the early days of next week. Following this, the club have now shifted their focus onto other priorities which include a striker and a goalkeeper. The chaos of the takeover of the club has not helped the cause of Erik Ten Hag with several reports indicating a restrictive budget to strengthen the squad because of the stringent rules of FFP.

Manchester United

Against all expectations, the Dutchman exceeded the expectations of fans and analysts last season and took Manchester United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and also ended the club’s six-year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup. Unlike the last transfer window where Casemiro and Antony arrived after the start of the season, Erik wants all his priority signings before the squad heads out for a preseason tour to the United States where they are facing the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Manchester United are looking to capitalize on the momentum which they have gathered from the Mason Mount deal. In the past few years, the club’s hierarchy has been accused of elongating negotiations and being inefficient in completing deals. Moreover, with less than two weeks left for the preseason camp, can Manchester United deliver all the priority signings before the squad departs for the United States? Let us know your thoughts!
