Ex-NFL QB reveals Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave green light to Netflix show with one condition

Quarterback is often considered the most crucial position of an NFL team being responsible for carrying leadership and taking the ball in almost every offensive play. Hence, keeping quarterbacks’ contribution to a team in great consideration, broadcast giant Netflix planned to document a series on them for which the Kansas City Chiefs head coach threw down a few standards.

The NFL films and Netflix partnered to develop the series on three dominating quarterbacks of the league now; Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins, and former Falcons’ quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Andy Reid sets ground rules for Netflix show

NFL legend Peyton Manning is serving as an executive producer under his Omaha Productions banner with Mahomes’s newly formed production company, 2 PM Productions. Moreover, Ross Ketover, Pat Kelleher, and Keith Cossrow are executive producers for NFL Films.

The former star quarterback of the Broncos had a great understanding of the roller coaster journey of an NFL quarterback and in his recent take with the Post Manning, he insisted the show is going to give the NFL fans an eye-catching look on the league’s best players.

“The last thing we wanted to be was a distraction, and that was our promise,” Peyton said.

Nevertheless, during the interview, the 47-year-old revealed a backstory regarding Mahomes. Patrick is widely regarded as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, yet when the former NFL player asked him for his involvement in the series the Chief’s quarterback showed great respect to his head coach Andy Reid and requested Manning to contact Reid for permission,

“It was very telling. Here you’ve got the best player in the NFL right now, that could probably say this is what I’m doing, I don’t care whether you like it or not. Instead, he wants me to ask his head coach for permission.”

When the Chiefs’ head coach got in touch, he made one request to Peyton that he not record his meetings for the docuseries, which the former quarterback readily agreed to,

“There’s a trust factor. I promised all these guys that anything they didn’t want in it wasn’t gonna be in it.”

What is the quarterback show on Netflix?

The three quarterbacks are expected to be featured in a behind-the-scenes docuseries that offers a firsthand glimpse into their daily lives. The eight-episode series is going to show their on-field struggle as they fight for their family life.

The first episode of the series is scheduled to air this summer. Each episode will last 45 minutes, as is typical for a television series, according to Netflix.

“We aim to give our members unprecedented access to the biggest athletes in the world, telling stories that you can’t see anywhere else,” said Brandon Riegg, vp unscripted and documentary series for Netflix.

“It doesn’t get any bigger than going inside the huddle with NFL quarterbacks, who hold perhaps the most important and difficult position in sports. We can’t wait to share their stories with our members around the world,” he added.

It is a huge initiative from Netflix to give the NFL field a big screen projecting the backstory of a successful journey that will hopefully chronicle the 2022 NFL season of the quarterbacks.
