Rey Mysterio and Edge are one of the greatest stars WWE has ever produced and they were vital throughout the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era. It seems like anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling after Edge debuted for AEW at WrestleDream and Rey Mysterio was vocal about how surprising the move was for him.
Wrestling headlines have been dominated by Adam Copeland joining WWE’s rivals. The Hall of Famer luchador shared his thoughts on his move in an interview and also addressed Logan Paul’s comments.
Rey Mysterio reacts to Edge’s AEW move
It seemed almost certain that Edge would remain with WWE for life. WWE was the platform that catapulted him to stardom and the very reason he could return to wrestling after a career-ending neck injury in 2011. His remarkable comeback at the Royal Rumble created one of the most thunderous pops in WWE history.
Edge had his final match against Sheamus at his 25th Anniversary show, and it was disclosed that his contract was nearing its end, making it his presumed retirement match. It came as a surprise when he didn’t retire but instead began wrestling for another promotion after spending his entire career in WWE. This move has now opened the door for possibilities in the near future, and no one is ruling out CM Punk joining WWE again.
Rey Mysterio was stunned by the jump and was quoted, “I was shocked. We had just spoken a week before that. Not that I expected him to tell me anything. We never had the time to even talk about what was next. I saw him in his last match, ‘we’ll be in touch.’ We call each other every now and then. Next thing you know, I didn’t even see it, it was on social media the following day. ‘Did you see?’ ‘No, what happened.’ They showed me (his debut). ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming.’
Mysterio addresses Logan Paul’s callout
This week was stacked with events as the DAZN Boxing series continued with matches featuring stars like Logan Paul, KSI, Dillon Dannis, and Tommy Fury. Logan Paul went on to defeat his rival Dillion Dannis in an overwhelming fashion as it was clearly a one-sided battle. But there was another interesting thing that happened after the bout.
Logan Paul called out Rey Mysterio and warned him that he was coming for the United States Championship. He was quoted, “Y’all know I’m a WWE superstar, so I’m gonna be back in the WWE – there are some championships there I wanna get; I got my eye on something, I got my eye on someone,”
Paul told the raucous crowd in the United Kingdom. “I’m an American boy, and I want that U.S. Title. Rey Mysterio, I already beat you once brother, and I’m coming for that U.S. Championship! Let’s go!”
Rey Mysterio addressed the issue in an interview and also acknowledged his comments on X. Logan Paul is slated to appear on SmackDown this Friday night and it’ll be interesting to see the two high-flying wrestlers in the same ring. It’s likely they both have a match at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, which would make an already stacked event even better.
Will Logan Paul be the one to end Rey Mysterio’s United States Championship title reign? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments.
