Ex-Barcelona MF Sergio Busquets officially joins MLS’ Inter Miami

The 2010 World Cup-winning midfielder is on his way to join his former teammate, seven times Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, at the MLS club Inter Miami CF, as confirmed by Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano and the club’s official Twitter account as a free agent.

Busquets has the third highest appearances for Barcelona, with a total of 719 across a span of 18 years since his debut in 2008. During this incredibly long journey, he has won nine LaLiga titles, seven Copas del Rey, three Champions Leagues, and three Club World Cups.

Busquets was also a member of the renowned Spanish squad that won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euro. He also recently announced his international retirement after the 2022 World Cup.

Sergio Busquets reportedly declined Saudi teams’ offers to play for Miami

A month prior, Busquets had announced his intention to leave Camp Nou, and his upcoming steps were uncertain. He had drawn interest from Saudi Arabia in addition to Inter Miami. Busquets, who claimed he was eager to play in Major League Soccer, rejected their offer, though.

Inter Miami might also be keeping an eye on Jordi Alba. According to reports, Alba and Inter Miami are currently in contact. Within a year, he might move to Miami to play with Lionel Messi and Busquets, if everything goes according to plan.
