After 55 million pound Mason Mount transfer, Manchester United open to selling ex-Cristiano Ronaldo teammate in pursuit of elite striker

After signing Mason Mount from Chelsea, Manchester United could sell out of favor Anthony Martial to fund the transfer of young Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester United is moving big this summer window. After the transfer of Mason Mount, the club is also close to the intake of Inter Milan’s Andre Onana. They are also looking at bringing in Harry Kane from Tottenham, and Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

The Red Devils also hope to sign talented and young striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. But to make the deal possible a sacrifice will be required from the club.

Rasmus Hojlund’s arrival could signal Anthony Martial’s Manchester United exit

Danish player Rasmus Hojlund is currently the top target of United. The 20-year-old scored 9 times in 20 Seria A appearances last season. Even for Denmark, he has scored six times in just 4 matches. He is seen as having a similar profile to Erling Haaland.

But Atalanta won’t let him leave easily. The Italian club has asked for a strict cash deal, with no swap deals involved. He is currently valued at £85m by the Seria A club.

To raise the necessary funds to buy Hojlund, United will have to sell a player. According to the Sun, the club is looking to move on from Anthony Martial, who has flopped in recent years. Injuries and form issues have led to him falling out of the United squad.

Aside from the funds he will provide, realistically United has no need for Martial. Since Hojlund will arrive, Martial will further go down the pecking order and it is best that the two parties separate soon.

Man United sign Mason Mount from Chelsea

Mason Mount was on the radar of Manchester United since before the season ended. The player also wanted to leave Chelsea and soon United entered into negotiations with the club. Though initially, both clubs failed to reach an agreement, they then agreed on a £60M price tag.

The whole deal is structured with a £55m initial fee. The rest £5m will be paid as add-ons depending on the player’s performance. Mount’s contract will last five years but will have the option to renew for one more. He will earn close to £5m per season.

Mount had only a year left on his Chelsea contract, and even though both the club and the player wanted an exit, the deal took some time. United had three initial bids rejected and even threatened to pull out of the deal.

After Chelsea asked for a crucial meeting, the two teams agreed on the aforementioned price. Mount will now take up the iconic no.7 shirt worn by past legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

United will now move on to other targets and continue building their squad for the future.
