Los Angeles Clippers 6-foot-7 guard-slash-forward Amir Coffey has been a prominent bench player for the team. Over the course of his four years with the Clippers, Coffey has mostly played as a reserve player.
After Ja Morant’s second gun-related instance, in a recent incident, Coffey was arrested on a firearms misdemeanor at 2 a.m. after being pulled over for speeding in Hollywood. As a result, he may be subject to punishment from the NBA, after they investigate the player’s off-court actions.

Coffey claimed ownership of the handgun, leading to his arrest for the lesser charge of felony firearm possession. Another passenger was ticketed for possession of marijuana. At 5:05 a.m., he was arrested and sent to jail, but four hours later, he was released on his own recognizance. In August, a hearing about Coffey is scheduled. First-time offenders in California can face up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine for a misdemeanor firearms charge, though a fine is more probable in Coffey’s case.
After going undrafted out of college at the University of Minnesota, Amir Coffey, at age 26, signed with the Clippers in 2019. He has appeared in 181 games for the squad and has contributed an average of 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 15.2 minutes per contest. Last season, he re-upped with the Clippers on a three-year, $11 million contract. In 2023–24, he will make $3.6M, and in 2024–25, he will earn $3.9M
