Report: Unpaid Transfer Causes Matt Sluka To Sit Out This Season

The college football world was shaken this week when UNLV quarterback Matt Sluka suddenly announced he won’t be playing this season for the Rebels. After his social media post, fans were eager to know the reason behind his decision.

Today, the truth came out—Sluka’s decision was tied to a big NIL dispute with the team, and the amount involved is massive.

When Matt Sluka moved from Holy Cross to UNLV, a coach promised him $100,000. But because he was still finishing his degree, he couldn’t sign a contract. When he joined the team in August, he only got $3,000 to help him move.

Even though his agent, Marcus Cromartie, tried to negotiate, the school refused to pay him $10,000 or $5,000 per month. Matt felt cheated when Coach Odom gave him only $3,000 a month, so he spoke up on his Twitter handle.

UNLV responds with official statement after Matt Sluka drama

On Wednesday, UNLV said that  Matt Sluka’s agent asked for money that the university believes breaks NCAA rules and Nevada law. They said they don’t do that kind of thing or respond to threats. Sluka’s scholarship is still being honored.

They also noted that UNLV follows all NCAA and state rules. Besides, Rob Sine, who manages UNLV’s NIL deals, said Sluka got $3,000 for an event this summer but didn’t know about any $100,000 promise or missing payments.
