AJ Styles made his return on last week’s “WWE SmackDown” to face Carmelo Hayes but suffered an injury that halted his momentum. Though some thought it was part of the injury storyline, it’s now confirmed that Styles is legitimately injured, which means his future storyline is in question.
Aj Styles was set to start a retirement storyline, but this injury has once again delayed those plans. According to Meltzer, he suffered a midfoot ligament sprain. He reported, “Styles suffered a mid-foot ligament sprain in his singles match with Hayes. While he started selling when landing on his feet after a quebrada, and was selling an injury, the leg went out when he was doing an ushigoroshi and the referee stopped the match.”
Meltzer added, “He was pretty mad about the whole thing. Styles was to start a storyline where this would be his farewell tour or doing a retirement tease and that’s still the idea pending MRI results showing the severity of the injury.”
Hopefully, Aj Styles will recover in time for a TNA appearance during his rumored retirement tour. “The Phenomenal One” is currently concentrating on his healing, and we can only hope for a potentially positive MRI report.
How AJ Styles got injured
AJ Styles’ recent injury has left WWE fans concerned and curious about what exactly happened. The incident occurred during the October 4 episode of SmackDown, where Styles faced off against Carmelo Hayes.
Styles was aiming to win the Undisputed WWE Championship before retiring from the TV. He wanted to beat Cody Rhodes to regain his legacy, but things got complicated when LA Knight and Carmelo Hayes got involved.
LA Knight set up a match between Styles and Hayes. During the match, Styles hurt his knee, and the referee had to stop the fight. Then, LA Knight attacked Hayes, making things even crazier. Styles was taken to the hospital for treatment.
