Merab Dvalishvili absolutely battered Petr Yan in the octagon. He notched up a record of 48 takedown attempts over five rounds. Yan did not even seem to stand a chance even after being one of the best in his craft. Merab Dvalishvili clinched a victory over the Russian on a score of 50-45.
How did MMA fighters react to Merab Dvalishvili brutalizing Petr Yan?
Dvalishvili studied Yan very well. Furthermore, he stuck to his plans for Yan. He kept it basic by reaching out for Yan’s legs whenever he got the chance. With an exuberant display of sheer MMA prowess, Dvalishvili flaunted his incredible conditioning. Yan tried to nullify Merab Dvalishvili’s moves by trying to bruise him with calf kicks. Figuring that tactic out, Merab made a couple of tweaks in his moves.
“The Machine” literally appeared as a machine. With his conditioning on point, Dvalishvili looked to beat Yan in his own game by going for calf kicks. In the process, he compelled Yan to change his stance.
In the main event of UFC Las Vegas, Dvalishvili tried to make a statement. He was overwhelmed after the match. At the same time he was over the moon as he shut down Yan quite literally, “Now, I show the world. Petr called me zero — who’s zero now? Who’s zero?”
The fellow fighters certainly don’t see him as a “zero” now. Even Joe Rogan implied him to square off with the current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who himself claimed the title from Yan at UFC 259. Time will tell whether Dvalishvili will step into the fight. He has left that decision up to the champ for now, as he holds him in very high regard.
Unlike, Rogan and MMA fighters had the same thought and admiration for the Georgian. Some of their excitement can be felt, even through the tweets.
Petr Yan has to do some soul-searching after his loss to Merab Dvalishvili. 49 takedown attempts means 49 missed chances at landing uppercuts, knees, anything other than holding his hands up and accepting defeat.
