A few days ago WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury announced on Twitter that he will make a return inside the ring very soon and dropped hints that his next opponent is a big name in boxing. Following this news, everyone was waiting for the opponent’s reveal and the exact fight date.
Many fans online were assuming that it would be Zhilei Zhang since he won the interim WBC heavyweight title against Joe Joyce recently. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed the mystery opponent that Tyson Fury will be facing in his next fight and it’s not the Chinese heavyweight.
While having a conversation with Boxing King Media, the interviewer asked the British boxing promoter who he thinks will be The Gypsy King’s next opponent. “Andy Ruiz, July 22nd,” said Hearn. WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has not responded to Eddie leaking his opponent and fight date so far.
However, the possibility of Eddie’s revelation and this matchup taking place is very high. Because soon after Fury’s announcement video, the Mexican heavyweight posted a picture on Instagram with a cryptic caption “Believe in yourself mi gente. 2x here we come.” Moreover, Ruiz teased fans last month by posting fan edits of their matchup on Instagram.
If there is no breakdown in negotiations, it would be interesting to see this matchup as Andy Ruiz has bounced back from his loss to Anthony Joshua and delivered two outstanding performances against Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz respectively.
Eddie Hearn confirms Anthony Joshua will fight Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder in December
Earlier this week, Amer Abdullah, head of boxing of Skills challenges revealed that there could be a boxing tournament featuring Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder on the same card in Saudi Arabia. During an interview, AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this news by saying that the former unified heavyweight champion will fight either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury in December.
“I’ll tell you now subject to the deal which will not be a problem with these people because we’ve done various fights with them. AJ will fight Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury in December no problem at all.”
There were rumors circulating that Joshua would fight someone in July. Eddie Hearn addressed this news and said that he cannot guarantee that the British heavyweight will fight before the end of summer. However, he has not completely ruled out the possibility of Anthony Joshua fighting in the summer by clarifying that AJ is interested and ready to fight in July.
