Khabib Nurmagomedov has solidified his spot as one of the best fighters that the UFC has ever seen in the history of the sport. Having an undefeated record of 29-0 and defeating great fighters like Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje even presented an argument as to whether he is the GOAT.
However, his early retirement in 2018 after his win over Gaethje and defending his title only three times have been used as a counterargument in this discussion. Subsequently, ever since his retirement, there have been a few rumors regarding his possible comeback inside the octagon against the likes of Georges St Pierre and Charles Oliveira.
UFC President Dana White also revealed that an offer was made to Khabib and GSP. Although The Eagle didn’t agree to Dana’s offer as he wanted to respect his mother’s wish and put all the rumors to bed by saying that he is done with MMA for good.
But the rumors regarding Nurmagomedov’s comeback have started resurfacing again after the former lightweight champion posted a video on Instagram where he is running on a treadmill. He captioned this post “July I have to be ready (Not MMA).” Khabib has clarified that he won’t be making a return inside the octagon.
With that being said, there is a good chance that Khabib might compete in an exhibition grappling match or a boxing bout.
Georges St Pierre reveals he is interested to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in a grappling match
As mentioned earlier, there have always been rumors going around about a matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St Pierre.
Every time GSP goes for an interview, the former two-division champion gets a question regarding a fight against Khabib and it was no different when he made an appearance at the UFC 287 Legends Q&A alongside Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, and Chris Weidman
Because one of the fans asked the Canadian superstar whether there is a possibility of a matchup between him and Khabib. To which GSP responded by showing interest and laid down some conditions for the fight to take place.
“Well, there is always a rumor. You know when it’s well done, maybe for a good cause, money goes to charity. Maybe I would compete again but not to prove that, not to trying to be the strongest man on earth. That I have no interest in doing anymore. But for a grappling event, maybe something like this. I never say never, you know.”
There has been no confirmation as to who is Khabib’s opponent for his ‘alleged’ comeback in combat sports in July. But with both GSP and Khabib hinting at a comeback we might see the two clash against each other in a grappling match in the future.
