Antoine Griezmann is undoubtedly one of the most decorated players of this generation. The 32-year-old has already achieved a lot in his career. He won the Europa League with Atletico Madrid in 2018 and also won the World Cup with France in the same year. He was also placed at number three in the 2016 Ballon d’Or list after the two G.O.A.Ts, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Griezmann’s time at Atletico Madrid has been the best in his career he was on top of the list along with Ronaldo and Messi until the Frenchman joined FC Barcelona. The 2018 World Cup winner’s time at Barcelona is one to forget as he is still considered to be one of their greatest flops. The Atletico legend is now back to his old club but he has also talked about his future endeavours and where he wants to go next.
Griezmann sets sights on MLS for future endeavours
Antoine Griezmann is the type of player that will be remembered for generations. He has the calibre to be compared to the best players. He was the top goal scorer in the EURO 2016 and was also presented with the Footballer of the Year award in the same season. A player like that must have a lot of options available to him and Antoine Griezmann has just spoken up about where he wants to go after his time at Atletico Madrid comes to an end.
The Atletico legend has options such as the Saudi Pro League available to him. He has told the media that it is a hard decision for him as he has three children and wants to support them but currently, his eyes are fixated on MLS. “Could I go? I have a family and three children, it’s not an easy decision to make but as you know, MLS is still my goal,” he said.
Antoine Griezmann’s regrettable Barcelona stint
Antoine Griezmann became a hero for Atletico Madrid he was the player everyone looked up to when the team was in a tough spot and needed to be rescued. He became the club’s saviour and was also named La Liga’s player of the year in 2016. Barcelona noticed his talents and he finally made a move to Camp Nou in July 2019. Barca fans thought he would do great things for them but unfortunately, once La Liga’s best player became one of the worst for La Blaugrana.
Griezmann never got on the Barca fans’ good side and his performance also took a hit at the club. He only got 14 goals in 48 games in the 2019-20 season which was nowhere close to his standards. Things did get a little better in the next season when he got 20 goals and 13 assists in 51 games but still, he was not anywhere near to what he was at his former club. He only managed to lift the Copa del Rey trophy with Barcelona in 2021.
It was clear that Griezmann was not giving the club its money’s worth and they finally sent him to his former club in the summer market of 2021 where he played as a loan player for 2 seasons before making a permanent move and reuniting with his old team.
He still has a few years left on his contract and may join the MLS after retiring from Europe. Antoine Griezmann’s ex-teammate, Lionel Messi also joined David Beckham’s Inter Miami earlier this season and the two may reunite in America once again.
