Barcelona are keen to sign Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo permanently next summer. The Portuguese duo joined Barcelona on transfer deadline day, with Felix coming from league rivals Atletico Madrid and Cancelo from treble-winning Manchester City on a season-long loan deal.
Both players have had an impressive start in blue and claret under the management of Xavi Hernandez. The club is determined to hold talks with both Atletico Madrid and Manchester City for a permanent transfer. However, they need to comply with financial fair play rules to make it possible.
Barcelona’s FFP woes won’t stop their bid to keep Felix and Cancelo
Manchester City is ready to offload the Portuguese full-back next summer, as Pep Guardiola doesn’t see Cancelo as part of his plans. Hence, his transfer is more likely.
Joao Felix fell out in terms with Diego Simeone, the forward joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in 2019, and recently signed an extension that runs out in 2029. This means Barcelona have to pay a transfer fee to secure his signature.
According to reports, Manchester City is ready to sell Joao Cancelo with a price tag of €25 million, while Atletico Madrid is demanding €80 million to offload Joao Felix in the next summer transfer window.
Thus, the Catalan side will have to pay a total sum of €105 million to secure the duo’s services on a permanent move next year. However, financial constraints will pose a hurdle for the Spanish champions. Hence, they must find a way to address their financial issues.
Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo impress at Barcelona
Both players were on loan spells last season, with Felix loaned out to Chelsea and Cancelo playing with the German champions, Bayern Munich. However, the respective clubs refused to sign them permanently.
On the contrary, the duo has made an instant impact in Barcelona colors following a deadline-day transfer.
Since his debut, Joao Felix has scored three goals and provided one assist in just three appearances this season. The 23-year-old scored a brace on his Champions League debut for the Blaugrana on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Joao Cancelo featured in all three competitive matches and also scored his first goal. Overall, he has been significant in a Barcelona shirt as a full-back.
Delivering stellar performances, the two Joaos have convinced Xavi and the club officials to pursue a permanent move in the 2024 summer transfer window. Do you think Barcelona will be able to sign the duo permanently next summer? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
