As the summer transfer window nears its end Barcelona is still not done with its squad. Manager Xavi still wants to add some more players to his team and make it stronger. The club’s legendary player, Lionel Messi was set to make a return but the Argentine decided to join Inter Miami at the last moment. Messi’s transfer could have helped the team a lot as the club is not doing very well financially.
Still, all of this is not stopping them to go in and sign more players. Barcelona has made a lot of signing in the summer transfer window and President Laporta has hinted that they are working on signing two more players. The club has been linked with Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix throughout the transfer window and fans speculate this will happen in the near future.
Laporta vows additional signings amidst transfer window countdown
The summer transfer window opened in July and since then Barcelona has signed several players. Some of the names include Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, Sergino Dest, and Brazilian wonder kid Vitor Roque. With new players coming in some old players like Jordi Alba have bid farewell to the club.
The Summer transfer window will close on 1 September 2023 after that clubs can only sign players as free agents who are not linked with any team. Laporta has hinted towards bringing in new recruits at the last moment the club has shown interest in Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix and Laporta’s statement hints that they will bring in the two at the last minute. “You have to ask Deco. We have a salary margin for last-minute operations, more than one, and we are working on it” Laporta said when asked about Felix.
Cancelo and Felix remain in spotlight for Barcelona
Barca’s current striker Lewandowski is not in top form and the club needs a new forward as soon as possible. That is where Joao Felix comes in and his addition to the team could be beneficial. Manager Xavi Hernandez is on board with the plan and wants the club to bring in the player on a year-long loan.
Claims of players like Ansu Fati leaving the club were also made recently when asked about his future in the team Laporta said “Ansu is extraordinary, we are all in love. It was Xavi’s decision to bring him in and he is just another member of the squad, who we want to improve. We are very happy that he is still with us.” reports claim that Barcelona may offer Fati as a part of the deal to sign Felix but nothing is confirmed yet.
Bringing in Cancelo could make the club’s backline stronger than ever and the addition of a full-back to the team’s roster could help them break low blocks, a strategy many teams use against Barcelona. Though the talks of these two players joining the club have been in the air for quite a while we are yet to hear an official announcement from the club.
