Belal Muhammad goes on rant after Dana White’s announcement of Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington as next UFC Welterweight title bout

UFC fighter Belal Muhammad expressed dissatisfaction with UFC President Dana White’s inclination towards scheduling a Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington matchup for the next UFC Welterweight Championship fight.

Colby Covington was present at UFC 286, where he witnessed Leon Edwards successfully defend his title against Kamaru Usman in their third encounter. Edwards emerged victorious with a majority decision. Furthermore, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Covington is the next contender for the 170-pound championship belt.

Upon learning of the news, Belal expressed his discontent through his Twitter account. In early March, Muhammad’s manager Ali Abdelaziz suggested that Covington was avoiding a potential fight with him. With rumors even circulating that the two were approached to coach a season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

During the post-fight press conference for UFC 286, White addressed these rumors.

Belal Muhammad expresses his opinion to Dana White

“What’s hilarious is you know there’s all this talk about The Ultimate Fighter and people coaching. Obviously, you know, when we’re thinking about you know who’s going to be coach a season whatever. There are multiple calls that are made to different people to see who’s interested. Is there interest this and that. So we reach out to a lot of different people and talk to people about it. Then we make out final decision.”

Edwards has voiced his opinion that he does not think Covington should be the next fighter in line for the UFC championship. During the UFC 286 post-fight press conference, he informed reporters that there are other active fighters who are more deserving of the title shot.

Leon even mentioned that a fight with Jorge Masvidal would be more appropriate since it has a backstory. Despite all, it seems like Dana is set on giving Covington his shot at glory.
