What happened in Matt Araiza and gang r**p lawsuit last year?
The year 2021 saw the darkest chapter in Matt’s life so far unfold, casting a shadow of great distress over him. The California native and his two San Diego teammates were accused of a gang r**p that year.
Allegations of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old minor were brought against them. As a consequence of these allegations, the NFL aspirant who got drafted by the Bills in 2022 was released during pre-season.
Months after heavy investigation, the San Diego District Attorney’s office open up in December last year with their final verdict. The office didn’t hold charges against the footballer as they found Matt had left the crime scene almost one hour earlier through scrutinizing video footage and every piece of evidence.
At this point, the Unanimous All-American spoke out “I am deeply gratified for the thorough work of the DA’s office in San Diego and for all the witnesses that were willing to come forward and tell the truth. I am thankful that the facts of this case as provided by the witnesses will prove that what I have been saying from the beginning is, in fact, the truth”.
It has become disturbingly common for sports organizations to take harsh steps against male athletes as soon as an allegation comes up. In many cases, the accused have been cleared of their charges. However, by the time justice comes, a lot of damage usually gets done already.
