The Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is having one of his best shooting seasons with a 56.6 effective field goal (eFG%) percentage this year.
He always had a knack for making baskets from three-point field goals and even won the three-point contest this year’s all-star weekend. Throughout the season, he keeps the opponent terrified by giving him free space and utilizing it effortlessly.
In a recent interview, Damian revealed the reason behind his tendency to score long-range baskets.
What did Damian Lillard say?
In a podcast with JJ Redick, the 32-year-old shared his vision and idea of the range he prefers to throw balls. “I would say once I get across half court. Obviously, that’s just not a good shot to constantly be taking. No matter how great you think you are, you can shoot,” he revealed.
“But I wouldn’t do that five times in a game. There are times in a game where if I come across here and there’s nobody there, I’m definitely going to shoot it,” the seven-time NBA all-star added.
This season, the former Rookie of the Year demonstrated his ability to score from long range, attempting 54.8% of his points from the 3-point range. Even his all-time career record is stunning: a 44.8% three-point field goal attempt percentage and successfully scores from these attempts with a 37.3% rate.
The 6.2-footers had covered his weakness of physicality with his sharpshooting prowess, though sometimes he missed several attempts in his career. However, he manages to turn things around through sheer dedication and resilient hard work.
Lillard joined the Blazers as the 6th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft after graduating from Weber State’s wildcat basketball team. In his 11-year professional career, he demonstrated brilliance in converting throws into scores and was recognized as one of the best shooters in the league.
