Tyson Fury last stepped inside the ring in December 2022 against Derek Chisora. The Gypsy King put on a dominant show and successfully defended his WBC and Ring heavyweight titles. However, the British heavyweight boxer has been unhappy for the last few months as he cannot find an opponent to fight.
The Gypsy King was supposed to fight Oleksandr Usyk in April this year. However, the fight did not materialise due to a disagreement regarding the contract between the promoters. Thereafter, Fury was in talks with Andy Ruiz for a fight. Apparently, those talks broke down as well due to the Mexican’s demands for a bigger paycheck.
Frank Warren criticizes Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua for not accepting the Tyson Fury fight
A few weeks ago, Tyson Fury revealed that his team sent a contract to Anthony Joshua for a fight in September. Following this revelation, AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged the callout but downplayed the idea of a fight taking place in September as Joshua is close to fight Dillian Whyte in August.
As a result, The Gypsy King was left frustrated once again. Consequently, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren ripped Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn for declining the fight offer while having a conversation with IFL TV.
“That’s not signed. So why would he fight Dillian Whyte rather than fight Tyson Fury for 40% of the money money for the WBC title. Why would he choose that over? That’s bulls**t. We sent the offer and we did discreetly. It was not done through media or anyone. Eddie Hearn can say what he wants but he’s talking a complete pile of b******s that is untrue.”
It is needless to say that Frank Warren was unhappy with AJ and Hearn rejecting the offer. He believes that Joshua is ducking Fury because he is scared of the WBC champion.
Will Anthony Joshua be fighting Fury this year?
Both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have been linked to fight each other for the past three to four years. However, every time they get close to signing a deal, there is a problem and the negotiations breakdown. This time around it was Eddie Hearn saying that AJ is scheduled to fight Whyte in August.
With that being said, there are doubts about whether this matchup will ever take place. Despite being angry on Eddie Hearn and Joshua for refusing the fight, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren is positive that the super fight will take place in Saudi Arabia. He believes that AJ wants to fight The Gypsy King in Saudi only for the money.
Oleksandr Usyk seems to have signed a contract with Skills Challenge and from the looks of it we might see a heavyweight tournament taking place this year. Do let us know in the comments section your opinion on whether Fury will fight Joshua this year.
