As the new season is approaching soon the NFL players are coming out with their ‘vows and expectations’ regarding the upcoming season. The Dolphins’ player Tyreek Hill hence hinted at a record-breaking year for the wide receiver.
The last campaign of the receiver was enough to astound the football world with his career-high yards. Following the successful stint, the Dolphins’ star wide receiver seems to have taken a dangerous challenge for his upcoming season with the Miami Dolphins.
Tyreek Hill wants to break the most receiving yards record
In spite of kicking off a breakthrough year, Tyreek boldly admitted that it was not his best performance rather it was just a demo that he offered to Miami in his first stint with them. The 29-year-old set career highs with 1,710 yards on 119 receptions.
Regardless, he still seems to possess a greater wish to give back to the squad as revealed during his appearance in the “It Needed to Be Said” podcast.
Though it may sound crazy, the receiver stated a clear intention to break 2,000 yards next year. Additionally, he expressed willingness to guide the Dolphins to clinch the Super Bowl title which they last managed to win in 1974,
“I will break 2,000 yards next year, bro. 2,000 yards was on my bucket list to get before I leave this league … 2,000 yards and another Super Bowl — we getting that. Believe that.”
In 2022 Tyreek joined the Miami-based team through a trade between the Chiefs and the Dolphins. After heading to a new start in Miami, the receiver feels he has the right weapon, necessary playing power, and proper guidance. According to him, these three things will facilitate him to fulfill his dream of a record-breaking career,
“I feel like I’ve got the right tools around me. I’ve got obviously the most accurate quarterback in the NFL, I’ve got one of the best head coaches in the NFL and also my position coach is a monster also. So just having those three things and me just keeping the same mindset each and every day that I want to get better and I want to break the record and I do want to break the record.”
Could Hill break the record and win the Super Bowl next season?
The NFL record for receiving yards in a single season is 1,964, set by former Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. in 2012. The Dolphins’ receiver’s confidence in him breaking the record is not a mere joke as only last season he had 1,104 yards in his first nine games.
Unfortunately, injuries confined him to 1710 yards. No player till now got close to Calvins’ 1,964 except Rams’ Cooper Kupp. Only twice in his career has the Dolphins player’s total yardage exceeded 1,400. He would probably have to play in each of the 17 games and average 117.6 yards per game in order to break the records.
For this, he likely needs to have both stable health and assistance from Tua Tagovailoa who is also undergoing an injury-plagued career. Hence, breaking the record is easier said than done.
