Bruno Fernandes-led Manchester United were left shell-shocked after their terrible performance, despite being at home, that saw them hammered 3-0 by Bournemouth. After a positive outing against Chelsea in the midweek, United’s circumstances swiftly deteriorated as they suffered a terrible loss on Saturday, capping a three-day turnaround.
Captain Bruno Fernandes has come out to apologize to the fans after that performance, as United fell to defeat against the Cherries for the first time at Old Trafford. United face Liverpool next in the Premier League, but they would be without their captain as Bruno has accumulated the yellow cards limit and must serve a one-game suspension.
Bruno Fernandes apologizes to Manchester United fans
Bruno Fernandes has arguably been one of the best players for the Red Devils in recent times, but this one has been a season to forget for the Portuguese. He will now face suspension for a game after picking up an unnecessary yellow card for dissent in the dying minutes of an already lost game against Bournemouth.
When asked about his reaction after the game, Bruno Fernandes was quick to apologize to the fans for their performance and said that they can “only say sorry”.
He stated, “Just apologize; the performance we did today was not acceptable. Starting with me, I’m not talking about anyone else, but I think everyone agrees in the dressing room that our performance was not at our level and we have to perform much better”.
He further added, “I don’t know if it’s a lack of concentration or focus or something else, but it’s something that we have to be aware of that after winning a game we have to get that consistency of winning again.”
Bruno also mentioned that they are already looking forward to the next game against Bayern, as it gives them a chance to prove themselves, and that they remain positive about qualification.
Manchester United suffer first loss to Bournemouth
Manchester United have recently been in very unwanted positions with regard to records and streaks, and that situation has continued against Bournemouth.
Goals from Dominic Solanke, Phillip Billing and Marcos Senesi in a 3-0 rout of the United team meant that Bournemouth registered their first ever win at Old Trafford. The Cherries had never won at the Theatre of Dreams previously in their ten visits before this, and are elated to do it in some style.
This result leaves United in troubled waters as they have a difficult December run of fixtures coming up, starting with their trip to Anfield.
