The NFL superstar Tom Brady announced his retirement last month after finishing an upsetting season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 23 years of a professional career.
Though Brady’s performance saw a downhill in recent years, the Buccaneers faced an enormous struggle to replace a quarterback like him. Given that the quarterback role is the rarest and most vital position in a team, and the Bucs had one of the best quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen, now they are in a pickle to choose someone who can fill the void.
Searching for a replacement like Tom is always difficult, and it became even more so as the market faced a short supply of suitable quality quarterbacks.
Who are the Buccaneers considering as Tom Brady’s replacement?
The Los Angeles Rams’ Baker Mayfield became the center of the Bucs’ attention as the quarterback became a free agent just after joining the franchise last December.
When free agency begins, the #Bucs are expected to target ex-#Rams QB Baker Mayfield as a potential starting QB option, per me and @MikeGarafolo. This could be competition for Kyle Trask, their former 2nd-round pick, who the team likes a lot. As TB plots life without Tom Brady… pic.twitter.com/9PmbTG0tYW

Despite making the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s backup, Kyle Trask, the starting quarterback, the Bucs started focusing on the 27-year-old prolific athlete. Baker gained his popularity at the college level when he played for the Oklahoma Sooners football team and won the Heisman Trophy, the Manning Award, and the Maxwell Award, all in 2017.
Later, he joined the Cleveland Browns as the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft and played for them for three years. In the meantime, he only managed to earn a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team and subsequently moved to the Carolina Panthers in 2022. However, he couldn’t make a breakthrough for the Panthers and waved to the Rams.
The #Bucs are pursuing QB Baker Mayfield, but several other teams also have expressed interest in the former No. 1 overall pick, per sources. A lot of moving parts in the QB market an hour into the negotiating window.

The then-potential youngster showed promising performances in his career with the Browns. Mayfield scored 102 touchdowns and 64 interceptions in his career, with 16,288 yards of passing for an 86.5 passer rating. His rushing ability also distinguishes him; he ran 660 yards rushing in 189 attempts in his career.
