Carlos Alcaraz potentially to play back-to-back Wimbledon matches: Examining the top seed’s daunting schedule

The Wimbledon is the most prestigious major title tennis event and All England Club has several norms and regulations that they have been following for decades, that makes this event the elite one that it is. To add to the already chaotic start to Wimbledon 2023, the rains make it worse. With the potential disruption by the Just Stop Oil protests and the rains on the grass surface, it is for sure a grueling process for the organizers to make everything perfect.

Carlos Alcaraz is the world number 1 and he is aiming straight at this Wimbledon 2023 to be his second major title. However, the complex schedule by the Wimbledon organizers might potentially be hindering this 20-year-old’s goal.

Carlos Alcaraz plays Alexandre Muller in second round

The world number 1, Carlitos, went up against Alexandre Muller, a Frenchman who has never played the Wimbledon before. Alcaraz made his opponent work for each point of his serve and played on the offence the whole match. It was winner after winner from the 20-year-old Spaniard, however the Frenchman also ensured to raise up and give him a difficult time.

Muller stayed consistent with his play and especially in the second set got very close to taking a set. But this consistency was not enough to defeat the world number 1. Carlitos beat him in 3 straight sets and now is to go against the Chilean tennis pro, Nicolás Jarry.

Jarry just played his first round at the Wimbledon yesterday, and he defeated Jason Kubler today. Now, with the unfortunately complicated and packed new scheduling, he will have to go against the World number 1 tomorrow! Similarly, even though Carlitos has to play back to back matches just to catch up with the draw.

Alcaraz camp left fuming with Wimbledon decision

The Russian pro, Daniil Medvedev speaks out about how, “That’s sometimes how Wimbledon can be. We know it can rain. Hard courts you cannot also kind of play in the rain. But the grass is even worse. As soon as it’s a few drops, you are scared.” He adds that he is glad that his matches are over and the players will have a hard time to cope with this packed schedule.

This packed schedule came as a surprise to Alcaraz’s team as two consecutive days of 5 set matches in the grass surface isn’t ideal. Carlos just won his second round and will have to play against the Chilean Nicolás Jarry, on Saturday.
