Carlos Sainz promotes beating Red Bull as Ferrari wants to win “more than Mercedes”

This season, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc appeared to be the better driver than Carlos Sainz, 28, as he currently sits second in the “2022 Driver’s Standings” with 219 points behind Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen (335).

Despite being in fifth place, Sainz seems happy with his current position (187 points) as he reminded everyone of his team’s viewpoint during the current season ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.

Why did Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz give more attention to winning than overtaking Mercedes?

If Ferrari can only return to winning races, Carlos Sainz feels they won’t have to be concerned over Team Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship, although, more than two months have passed since Ferrari (Charles Leclerc P1 in Austria) last won a grand prix.

Since that day, Max Verstappen has proceeded on a streak of winning five straight races to put himself in position to win a second World Championship, even though Mercedes’ results have been superior to Ferrari’s.

Mercedes scored six podium finishes in the past five races while the Scuderia only managed three, narrowing the deficit in the Constructors’ Trophy to 35 points. Team Ferrari, the early season favorites to win the titles, are currently fighting to stay in second place with 279 points still to be won in the teams’ battle.

However, Sainz argues that Ferrari is more concerned with returning to winning form than with Mercedes. If they are successful, they will defeat the Brackley team. Upon saying that, the Spanish driver further emphasizes the remaining races of the season for which he and his team are now in full focus to create pressure on Red Bull.

The Spanish driver discussed a key issue by saying, “We are concerned about getting back to winning, more than Mercedes, Honestly, if we know we get back to winning before the end of the season, then the battle with Mercedes should be sorted.”

Scuderia Ferrari is coming to the conclusion of a campaign in which the team’s performance has fluctuated across the map due to point leaks caused by strategy mistakes and mechanical concerns and in the lead-up to the series finale in Abu Dhabi, Sainz has pushed the Scuderia to concentrate on consistency rather than comparing the results.

Keeping aside his suggestions, Leclerc’s teammate also focused on keeping up the “momentum” by which their team can improve in the next season with a long-term project in mind. Apart from that, Sainz, who has 187 points in the Drivers’ Championship and is 32 points behind compatriot Leclerc in the race for P2, will start from fifth on the grid for the Singapore Grand Prix.
