The 2024 NFL Draft kicked off last night with talented college players finally fulfilling their dreams of entering the professional NFL world. Carolina Panthers also made a bold move in the first round of the NFL draft as they traded up to select Xavier Legette.
The team traded up one spot to No. 32 overall to Legette, concluding the first round.
After he was selected, the expected contract details of the wide receiver were also revealed. Reportedly, Xavier Legette will sign a four-year deal worth $12.3 million with the Panthers.
The WR will also get a $5.8 million signing bonus in the deal, with all the money fully guaranteed. It was also reported that his contract will also have a fifth-year option in 2028.
Xavier Legette had an incredible college career with South Carolina as he participated in 41 games with 17 starts. In his fifth-year senior season (2023), he became the teamās number-one receiver.
The Panthers’ decision to select Xavier Legette is understandable considering his exceptional performance and it wasn’t even shocking as the WR had already revealed the team’s repeated attempts to acquire him.
Xavier Legette was the Panthersā top target
During the off-season, the Carolina Panthers were seeking to bolster their wide receiver corps. In an interview, Xavier Legette revealed that the team had made multiple attempts to acquire him.
He mentioned that the team met with him on four or five occasions, indicating a strong interest in drafting him.
āIāve met with the Panthers about four or five times,ā the WR said.
Xavier Legette shared that the Panthers have expressed a clear intention to sign him if he is available as the 33rd pick in the draft.
The relationship between Legette and the Panthers had been growing steadily, and it was expected that the team would fulfill their promise with the WR.
