Chael Sonnen hires security to ensure his protection against Jorge Masvidal in Miami for UFC 299

After Jorge Masvidal called out Chael Sonnen for being a ‘fake-ass gangster’ on the MMAHour Podcast, Chael Sonnen posted in a recent development that he had to hire armed security because of Jorge Masvidal, ahead of UFC 299, set to take place in Miami, Florida, which is also Jorge Masvidal’s hometown.

Chael Sonnen had a lot to say with regards to Jorge’s callout but also wanted to address the fake gangster part at large, which seems to have struck some sort of nerve with Jorge.

Chael Sonnen posted a video of himself on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), from a hotel room on March 8th, publicly announcing that he is with 2 security guards in a separate location due to Jorge’s ‘threats.’

“I do not think Jorge would do anything, but there’s also a part of me that also thinks he would,” said Chael.

This development seems to have gotten bigger ever since Chael’s reply to Jorge regarding the ‘fake-ass gangster’ callouts.

“Jorge Masvidal tried to come at me and call me a fake gangster. I have more felonies than he does, which is jailhouse talk. I wouldn’t expect any of you to be impressed by that, but it means he sleeps on the bottom bunk, and he will know what that means,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.

Why did Jorge Masvidal threaten Chael Sonnen?

Jorge Masvidal appeared on the MMAHour Podcast on the 29th of February to announce his return after his retirement from combat sports following his loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287.

Looking to compete in either boxing or MMA later this year, a number of opponents were suggested, but former rival Nate Diaz appeared to be the most likely, until ‘Gamebred’ went after Chael.

“I can’t stand that lesbian-looking transitional b**** Chael Sonnen,” Jorge Masvidal said.

“I would love to bust up Chael but he would never get into the boxing ring with me. They’ve offered him all types of crazy money and all he can do are video rants on his cheesy channels.” Masvidal continued.

“But Chael would be one guy I would love to break his eye orbital. Just because he’s such a cheating f***. He’s gotten caught with more substances in his body than any other competitor in history. At one time he had six or seven difference substances in his body for one of his title fights. You’re a f****** piece of s*** human being.” talking passionately about the infamous substance abuse accusations of Chael Sonnen.

“You could go out there and hurt somebody just so you can f****** make a paycheck? Because when you’re on steroids, as everybody knows you become a super soldier. So Chael would be somebody I would love to f*** up. And I would just tell him do all the steroids you want, it doesn’t matter. I’m still going to break your eye orbital.” concluded Masvidal, openly calling out the veteran of the sport.
