The Los Angeles Chargers have already solidified their roster by adding tight end, running back, and receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft. On Saturday, the team made yet another brilliant choice by bringing in former TCU quarterback Max Duggan as their starting quarterback.
The Chargers selected wide receiver Quentin Johnston with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 Draft to kick off their season’s draft selection. They stunned the NFL community by adding six promising prospects in multiple positions before choosing Duggan yesterday.
The other five players were Tuli Tuipulotu (EDGE), Daiyan Henley (LB), Derius Davis (WR), Jordan McFadden (OT), and Scott Matlock (DT).
On Saturday, the Chargers selected Duggan with the 239th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former TCU players had a fruitful playing career and enabled TCU to reach its first College Football Playoff appearance in 2022.

He had long dreamed of playing in the NFL and wowing the league with his incredible playing abilities. The quarterback was ecstatic about joining the Chargers after realizing his dream, and he expressed this from his home in Iowa.
“There’s a lot of excitement,” he said. “Throughout this process, I feel like I built a lot of good relationships with all of the coaches on the coaching staff and really built up and connected with them in that way. Obviously, you see Q and DD go earlier and there was a lot of excitement to be a part of this franchise.”
By virtue of his excellent athletic abilities, he distinguished himself by winning the 2022 Davey O’Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, and Heisman Trophy runner-up.
Since Deshaun Watson of Clemson in 2015, the 22-year-old ended up being the first player with 250 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a conference championship game. In terms of total touchdowns, his 41 in 2022 ranked second all-time at TCU.
It seems like the Chargers have probably made a wise choice as they selected a backup quarterback for their three years veteran quarterback Justin Herbert, who underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, to strengthen the quarterback room. More recently, the team made the choice to exercise Herbert’s fifth-year option.
